jacob’s roots
At a young age, Jacob was fascinated by the sound of the electric guitar. The only child of a single parent, he first picked up guitar when he was eleven because he wanted to be in a band with some older friends. Those friends soon introduced him to classic punk like the Sex Pistols and Dead Kennedy’s.
He took guitar lessons for three years, started his first rock band at thirteen with a different friend, Will Cotter, with whom he shared a mutual interest in worshipping AC/DC.
Picking up singing in his late twenties, he formed a bluegrass band called Viva La Reve which lasted for several years. He moved into playing solo shows and private events.
Having written essentially all of the music in the groups he was previously a part of, he has now released several singles under the artist name Jacob Philip Benning. These can be found on all streaming platforms.
Jacob describes his relationship with music as “a good old friend I have had since I was young.” He says, “I understand music well enough to make it sound good to others and music understands me.”
These days, he finds himself playing music to solve the problem of hopelessness in a world of uncertainty. He desires to promote romanticism/ idealism through his music to improve our world, starting with the hearts and souls of those who listen.
